The history of the Chanderi saree is rich and spans over a millennium, originating in the town of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh. Its roots can be traced back to as early as the 2nd and 7th centuries BC, with a significant period of growth during the 12th and 13th centuries AD when it was woven for royal households. The craft was later revived in the 19th century and continued to evolve, incorporating new influences and techniques, while still maintaining its core, lightweight, and airy texture.
